Retailers are hoping for a last-minute surge in holiday sales to meet targets after shoppers spent 2.4 percent more nationally this past weekend than the same period last year - with Massachusetts stores reporting high volumes and aiming for a banner year. National "Super Saturday" weekend sales climbed toa $42 billion, up from $41 billion in 2013, according to Customer Growth Partners, a New Canaan, Conn., research firm.
