Born in Stamford on Oct. 30, 1962, she was the daughter of Carole Chapin of Dedham, Mass., and H. King Chapin of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and New Canaan. Raised in New Canaan and Brookline, Mass., Chapin had a whimsical disposition and a strong affection for animals, flowers and music.
