A New Canaan man lost $500 Monday after he purchased prepaid cards for a person claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service audit department, according to police. The White Oak Shade Road resident received a call from a man identified as Jack Murphy , who had "a thick Middle Eastern accent," police said.
