A license plate "marker light" was out on a car traveling on Cherry Street at about 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, which led to a traffic stop, which led to an officer suspecting that a driver was intoxicated, which led to an arrest, New Canaan police said. An officer was parked on Cherry Street near South Avenue looking for traffic violations when he spotted the nonfunctioning light for the vehicle's license plate - which meant the plate couldn't be read in the dark.
