07/07/10 Gubernatorial Candidate Dan Malloy Slams Greenwich Resident Ned Lamont For Skipping New London Debate

The Chicken Man Is Afraid Of Getting Plucked:

Greenwich Millionaire Ned Lamont Is Running Scared

Dan Malloy, the endorsed Democratic candidate for Connecticut governor, is criticizing his primary opponent Ned Lamont for skipping a planned televised debate inNew London later this month.

The Day of New London, which traditionally co-sponsors the debate with WTNH-TV, announced Tuesday that Lamont is refusing to participate, forcing them to cancel the live event. The Republican candidates for governor will still face off on July 28.

Malloy and Lamont appeared together last month in their first TV debate. Malloy says he thinks Lamont won't participate in a second debate because a campaign focus group showed he did not perform well.

A spokeswoman confirmed Lamont is not participating, saying that he wants to talk directly to voters between now and the Aug. 10 primary. She says there was no focus group.

07/06/10 Arrest After Family Fourth Reminds Police Officers Of 1996 Incident‎

Timothy Sachs, 18, of New Canaan was arrested at 10:27 p.m. Sunday, July 4, on South Avenue after reportedly not adhering to an officer’s traffic directions. He was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failure to obey an officer’s signal and risk of injury to a minor.

His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, police said Tuesday.

The officer, who was directing Family Fourth traffic on South Avenue, had to “back out of the way to avoid being hit” after Sachs reportedly did not obey his directions, New Canaan Police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc told the Advertiser.

The police officer was standing at the same location, at about the same time, on the same night that another officer, Patrolman William Marabella, had stood 14 years earlier when he was hit by a driver while directing Family Fourth traffic, she said. Marabella was taken to Norwalk Hospital at the time with a severe cut on his head and several bruises, the Advertiser reported in its July 11, 1996 issue.

Sachs — who had four passengers in his Nissan Altima — pulled over after another officer signaled to him, Ogrinc said.

The officer approached the car and reportedly smelled a “very strong” odor of alcohol coming from the car when the windows were rolled down. In plain view was an open can of Bud Light, she said.

Sachs reportedly failed field sobriety tests.

He posted a $750 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 16.

“His license will be suspended,” Ogrinc said, noting that she does not know for how long.

The passengers in the car included two 16-year-old girls, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, all from New Canaan.

When the officer asked all the passengers to exit the car, he reportedly noticed a bottle of Champagne on the 17-year-old boy’s seat. The boy was issued a ticket for possession of alcohol by a minor.
